This is a porcelain fairing box from the 19th century. These types of boxes were given out as prizes at Victorian English county fairs. Fairings were actually primarily made in Germany by companies such as Conta & Boehme. This particular piece features a mini tea set and table. The lid and inside is oval shaped. This is a lovely piece that would be great on display.
The red, blue, green, and gold paint seems to have been painted on after the porcelain was glazed, and it is chipping off. This type of paint is called cold paint. Parts of the rim of the box and the lid have yellow or light brown residue. There is a tiny chip on one of the plates on the box lid. The wear seen is consistent with the piece's age.
