History: Made in the southern coastal states by itinerant artists to sell on the beach to sunbathers or tourists. 

This is a fun seashell, Mother of Pearl and coral necklace  would be the perfect addition to your Sundress, bathing suit or tank top. These little necklaces made of seashells and interspersed with coral beads were a big hit with early 1940 and 50s Florida tourists.  Shell Jewelry at that time was made by itinerant, local artists, utilizing what nature had to offer. The prices were attractive and sales were great. But to find one this nice is uncommon, it is a keeper.

The choker-length necklace has a screw barrel clasp and has never needed to be restrung. The necklace is in great, ready to wear condition.  Hit the beach looking and feeling like an Island Girl.
