Red Murano Glass Beaded Necklace

Wow! What a radiant red Murano glass necklace. Each of the large beads is made with red and white canes of glass encased in clear glass.  Some of the canes are twisted, while others are straight, creating a delightful mix of red and white beads. The smaller beads are red, infused with a slight marbling of black, giving the appearance of stone, making them part of the blend into the background and allowing the larger "Cane-filled beads" to stand out.  In the production of glass, cane-filled items are highly valued as they require skilled glass artists to create. Murano glass gets its name from the island in Italy, where this specific glass-making technique developed. The technique in question involves melting mineral sands together at extremely high temperatures (up to 2500°F!) until the mixture turns into liquid glass. The temperature is then lowered, infused with color, and stirred to create the swirling patterns for which Murano glass is known. The necklace has a total length of 19in and closes with a metal lobster clasp. Overall, this is a truly rare and unique piece that is sure to make any ensemble feel all the more distinguished.
