Item: Ring with an oval Lapis Lazuli stone set in 925 Silver - it appears to be artist made
Materials: Natural Lapis Lazuli and 925 silver

History: This ring is from the mid-century and has the hallmarks of an artist-made piece. On close examination the original polish marks are visible on the silver, and the silver around the stone has a small divot which often can be seen on artist made silver settings. The artist is trying to follow the curvature of the stone, while machine-made settings have a cup shape, and the stone is set into the pre-made cupped edge. This may have come from the southwestern states, where handmade Lapis items are sold in trading posts.
