Alice Caviness Sapphire Necklace and Earring Set

This ear ring and necklace set are a true find!  It has the wonderful look of the Roaring 20s. The set is in fabulous condition, I am unsure if they were ever used. The set was purchased  in Michigan, from the estate of a "transplanted" New Yorker. The necklace was most likely created in the late 1950s or very early 1960s. It is an Alice Caviness Creation. Alice, a Long Island gal, began the Alice Caviness Company in 1940. She was a designer and a business woman taking part in every aspect of her company. She eventually married Jules Junquerra, together they successfully ran her company until retiring in 1970. Some of their pieces were commissioned to be made in Germany, usually usually incorporating silver or gold on silver. This set is unmarked and may have included a bracelet when purchased.  The earrings are attached to their original Alice Caviness Card from Fifth Avenue, New York. Often only one piece of a set was given a makers mark...leaving fantastic pieces without a designation. Thankfully, the earrings had been fastened to the necklace with the two straight pins shown in the photo. Without the ear ring backer card we may not have kept this set intact.  The "Caviness touch" and style was so varied, most likely, due to the huge changes in the post World War society. Her jewelry survived the sexual revolution into the hippie heyday.

Pictures just do not capture the beauty of the piece.   Each roundel is made of 6 individual clear Austrian crystals then two smaller center roundels with 7 sapphire blue Crystals and another large roundel again with 6 Austrian clear Crystals. There are 4 of these stacked roundels separated by 10 small carved sterling silver roundels.  the carving in the silver creates a glint similar to the sparkle of the small crystals.

The dangle ear rings each have the same crystal roundel and Sterling roundel as found on the necklace.
